With the rise in the international market and the supply of the domestic market, which represents about 80% of beef production, there is an increase in the number of contracts. The recovery in the value of the arroba of fat cattle and the increase, albeit modest, in the price of calves are making cattle farmers excited about Christmas.
"The market is beginning to show signs of recovery and this is very important for the entire beef production chain. We know that China is a strong market in the last months of the year, and to promote increases in the price of beef cattle per arroba", stressed Cyro Ferreira Penna Júnior, coordinator of the Commission.
Among the issues that were also discussed at the meeting was the creation of the state compensation fund, which will compensate producers who have some outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease on their properties. The state government's Bill, which proposes the creation of a fund with public resources, will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly and is expected to be voted on and sanctioned this year, so that it can already raise funds in 2025.
It is worth remembering that São Paulo, since May, has been nationally recognized as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination and the last recorded outbreak of the disease in the state was in 1996. However, the compensation funds are a security for livestock farmers and are part of an animal defense strategy of the PNEFA Strategic Plan, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA). Fundesa-PEC was announced by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas during Agrishow, at the end of April.
"I had the opportunity to talk to the governor about the issue, which has caused concern among livestock farmers, reinforcing Faesp's request for a quick definition of the fund. The governor, who is always sensitive to the issues of the agricultural sector, guaranteed that he will work on this," concluded Faesp president Tirso Meirelles.
